JOB SUMMARY
The Diet Technician in absence of the Dietary Manager directs and supervises the overall operation of Health Center Dining Services under the supervision of the Director of Dining Services and Consultant Dietitian in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Skills, Abilities & Competencies:
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
1. Walks or stands 50% of the time.
2. Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds approximately 30 feet.
3. Works in a fast-paced environment; must be able to move quickly.
4. Works in an indoor setting with limited exposure to outside elements.
5. Work in potentially hazardous conditions such that may be subject to falls, cuts, burns from equipment, hot foods, odors, chemicals etc., throughout the day.
6. May be subject hostile and emotional Residents.
Complexity:
A broad knowledge of applicable health and nursing home regulations and the
ability to implement a quality food program consistent with said regulations is essential. Both technical and managerial decisions over this broad range must be made on a timely and regular basis.
Supervision Received:
This position operates under the Director of Dining Services. Must be able to work and make appropriate decisions consistent with established policies independently with minimal supervision.
Contact with Others:
Frequent contact with residents, employees, and medical staff. This requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally as well as in writing. Because the position involves direct member contact, and many elderly residents have significant loss of hearing, an articulate command of the English language is preferred.
Errors:
Probable errors could cause service delays or closure of facilities, resident dissatisfaction or discomfort, this position must work independently and accurately.
Confidentiality:
Works with confidential data whose disclosure would be contrary to the best interests of the facility and professional ethics.
Mental/Visual Demands:
Flow of work requires normal mental and visual demands.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk hear, and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Employees must have excellent balance and be able to climb a ladder and walk around a roof. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and be able to work at heights. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as work on a computer for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to communicate verbally with others on the phone or in person.
